Tails is not available in App Store and never will be – its rules deny an app like Tails point-blank. Instead, the suggested installation method is to “sideload” the app via AltStore Classic. No jailbreak required!

Version 3.1 is a compatibility release for API v2 which will become mandatory later this year, and iOS 27.

Supports iOS versions 16 to 27. You may also download Version 3.1 as .ipa (3.60 MB, showhide hash) for a manual installation.

Version 4.0 beta 1 was released on 2026-10-03. View version history for older releases.

This version introduces a new UI for Apple’s liquid glass look, API v2 support, quicker image downloads, and a few other requested features.

New UI:
– More bottom–oriented navigation: Pools, Search and Settings are now in a tab bar
– Post voting, favoriting, and downloading buttons are in a toolbar (and there’s a setting to switch back to the old navigation bar in the Layout & Interface settings)
– Added an option to have even more thumbnail columns

Other features:
– Supports iOS 27
– Supports API v2
– Supports "state restoration", meaning that if the app is suspended in the background, it’ll launch back to whatever you viewed previously
– Favorited tags can be ignored from updating by long–pressing on them (disable updates for inactive tags to speed up the updater while still keeping them as bookmarks)
– Adds a dedicated button to download an image (set the save target folder and filename format in Behavior settings)
– Adds a separate "share link" function to long press menus
– Adds a "hide downvoted posts" filter menu option
– Indicates up/downvoted posts more reliably when logged in

And a lot of minor bug fixes and polishing.

Voting: Tap to upvote, swipe down to downvote

Open in Web Browser: Opens the post in your browser to access features unavailable in Tails
Pool View: Displays posts as a continuous, vertical list instead of the side-by-side pages
Zoomable Image: Tap or pinch to zoom the image, and long press to save it to your device
Hiding Navigation Bar: Tap the image with two fingers for a fullscreen view
Tag Navigation: Tap any tag to quickly search for it
Tag Subscriptions: Long press on any tag to favorite/subscribe it

iPad Screenshots

Drag-and-Drop

Tails supports iPadOS's Drag-and-Drop system with multiple items, and multitasking with Split Screen and Slide Over.

It works great with 3rd party apps that also support Drag-and-Drop, and for saving multiple images to your device or any cloud service in your Files app by dragging them over.

(Alternatively, save single images to your device by long pressing on them, for example on devices without drag-and-drop support.)

Expanded Layout

On iPad, a lot more thumbnails are shown per screen, with even more thumbnails available as an optional layout enabled in the app's settings.
